Conservation Treatments
Available treatments include the removal of old tapes, mounts and framing materials; cleaning to address discolouration, staining and foxing; and skilled paper repairs to stabilise tears and losses. We also provide lining for fragile works on paper and careful pressing to reduce creases and distortions.
The studio works closely with skilled mounters and framers and can advise on, or arrange, a range of options; from simple acid-free mounts to specialist wash-lines and hand-lettered calligraphy. Framing options include everything from plain wooden frames to hand-finished and gilded designs.
Assessment & Reports
The studio provides comprehensive assessments to determine an artwork’s condition and the treatments it may require. Each assessment includes a client consultation to understand expectations, followed by a written condition report with a treatment plan and cost estimate. A full photographic record can also be provided on request.
We offer clear, independent guidance on the condition of artworks prior to purchase, helping clients understand any existing issues and potential conservation needs.
The studio is fully insured for up to £25,000 per item. We recommend that clients also maintain their own insurance to cover the full value of their artworks. If additional coverage is needed, we can arrange this at a per-item cost.
